Bendigo Tech School RoboClub - commencing soon

The Bendigo Tech School RoboClub is a free creative after school program for young people aged 12 to 18.

You’ll get to learn to code, build circuits and construct robots all while battling your friends and trying to invent something awesome!

RoboClub is run by trained mentors in areas such as programming, Robotics design, 3D printing, and Arduino circuits.

RoboClub runs fortnightly on Mondays during term time, and is intended to run as an 8 month program.

TIME/DATE

DESCRIPTION

 IN BRIEF

Introduction to robots

4:00 – 5:30 pm, 24 May

During these first sessions we experiment with and learn a variety of robots, from Sphero and Drones to Mindstorms and Robomasters. We get to play with some of the most advanced educational robots available.

We will also explore sensors vs gears and lights and compare how the robot identifies inputs vs outputs

·       Introduction to robots

·       Free play in any style

·       Explore inputs vs outputs

Introduction to Coded robotics

4:00 – 5:30 pm, 07 Jun

4:00 – 5:30 pm, 21 Jun

Learn the basics of block and script coding using a range of technologies from EV3 robots, micro bits to drones, and block code to python. Explore the potential of preprogramed and coded robots. Experiment with different coded commands and loops in block-based code.

·     Learning block-based code and how to apply this to a range of different robots

Robowars

4:00 – 5:30 pm, 19 Jul

4:00 – 5:30 pm, 02 Aug

4:00 – 5:30 pm, 17 Aug

During these sessions you will get to build a Lego Mindstorms robot either individually or part of a group and battle against other robots. With the aim to either push their robot out of the circle or flip them over. Everyone will have the opportunity to design, test, and battle their robot.

·     Use your skills to create and program a robot to beat all the others

Arduino customise everything!

4:00 – 5:30 pm, 30 Aug

4:00 – 5:30 pm, 13 Sep

Up until this point you have been limited by the blocks and capabilities of the robots, now we get to look at fully customisable design from scratch robots.

We will look at how to use lights, motors, sounds, and explore a range of possibilities, we also begin thinking about our final robot we will create.

·     Get your own Arduino starter pack and begin learning

·     Learn breadboards and circuits

Designing and planning

4:00 – 5:30 pm, 11 Oct

4:00 – 5:30 pm, 25 Oct

Start to plan your final robot, the one you will get to keep, building on the skills we have learned we will be designing the circuit for the robot, the code, and the look of the finished product.

·     Create a plan of what to create

Working on other components

4:00 – 5:30 pm, 8 Nov

4:00 – 5:30 pm, 22 Nov

Now we have the code and the circuit for the robot, what else do we need? During these sessions we can create wooden components, or 3D print parts to add to our robots to make them look epic.

·     Use the tools available to you to create the other parts to your robot

Showing off your creation

4:00 – 6.00 pm, 06 Dec

Use this opportunity to show off your creation to all your peers and see what everyone else has made

·     Show off and then take home your Arduino robot
